Session 5: Natural dyes with mushrooms

The world of natural dyes produced by mushrooms is vast, and incredibly colorful. This session is devoted to learning about the colors we can make from wild mushrooms growing in our region. A natural dye demo will be led by a visiting artist, make sure to bring some fabric to throw in the dye pot.

The 2023 Mushroom workshop series is devoted to looking into the dynamic world of mushrooms through discussion, sharing and hands-on experience.  Each month we will be covering a different topic: mushroom growing, ethnobotany and historical uses of mushrooms, mushrooms in art and science,  mushroom dyes and use in craft, and mushroom cooking.

Mushrooms, being the great communicators of our world, have so much to teach us. There is a lifetime of learning to be had with any one of these subjects. In this series, we hope to introduce and inspire more interconnected learning around all aspects of the mushroom world.

While the practical applications of mushrooms are proliferating throughout art and science, along with their medicinal benefits, there is a deep and rich history of mushrooms in their folk and spiritual connections across cultures that will be honored throughout our time together.

This 6-session workshop series will meet once per month, for six months, on our farm in New Paltz, NY.  We will host a variety of guest speakers, and provide materials for you to take home.

Cost:

$360 for the full series ($60 per session).

$75 per individual session.

We encourage you to be with us for the entire series.  There will be a limited amount of seats available for those who would like to join for select individual sessions of the series.
